The Big Belt Hut is a longhouse-style yurt located at 8,500' in the heart of the Big Belt mountains of Montana between Bozeman and Helena.
Situated on the ridge line of Mt. Baldy, the hut provides excellent opportunities for winter and spring backcountry skiing and touring, as well as summer and fall mountain biking, trail running, hiking, and hunting: all right out the front door.
After a long day in the mountains, kick back on the deck to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset, relax your muscles in our wood burning sauna (Coming Summer 2019), make gourmet meals in our 5-star backcountry kitchen, or catch some zzz's on our comfy memory foam mattresses. Whether its summer or winter you are sure to have an unforgettable backcountry experience at the Big Belt Hut.
The hut includes 6 fullsize bunk-beds and 2 twin bunk-beds. The hut comfortably sleeps 10 people on their own invidual beds or up to 15 if people share the fullsize mattresses.
For dining and class instruction, an 8' table seats 10 people with additional seating for 4 at the bar.
Life at the Big Belt Hut
A woodstove and fully-stocked kitchen including a 3-burner propane stove make the hut both comfortable and ideal for your next gourmet backcountry creation. Food can be stored in a large steel bear-box located just out front of the hut.
In the summer, water can be retrieved from a spring located 100 yards away from the hut, and in the winter a large pot is available to melt snow.
There is an outhouse located 50 yards to the north of the hut.
Skiing at the Big Belt Hut
The Big Belt Hut has terrain for skiers of all styles and abilities, long tours, open bowls, mellow glade skiing, and a few big mountain lines that'll have you wishing for Spring.
